How Much Does a Cleaning Lady Cost in Switzerland?

Guide · Updated November 2026

The cost of a cleaning lady depends on three things: the hourly rate, the length of each visit and how often she comes. Here you can see how the price is made up, what it includes and what monthly costs you can expect.

The hourly rate

At Putz24, a cleaning lady costs CHF 39.95 per hour (excl. 8.1 % VAT). This covers the cleaner’s wages, all social security contributions, accident and liability insurance, cover during holidays and illness, as well as all the organisation and invoicing. You only pay for the hours actually worked.

How long does a visit take?

The time needed depends mainly on the floor area and the number of rooms and bathrooms. Guide values for regular cleaning:

Property	Duration	Price per visit*
Apartment up to 99 m², 2½ rooms, 1 bathroom	2 hrs	CHF 79.90
Apartment up to 99 m², 3½ rooms, 1 bathroom	2.5 hrs	CHF 99.88
Apartment 100–199 m², 4½ rooms, 2 bathrooms	3.5 hrs	CHF 139.83
House 200–299 m², 6½ rooms, 3 bathrooms	5 hrs	CHF 199.75

*Guide prices excl. VAT. Minimum 2 hours per visit.

Monthly costs

On average, a month has around 4.3 weeks. For a 3½-room apartment cleaned weekly, that comes to about 4.3 visits of 2.5 hours each, or roughly CHF 430 per month (excl. VAT). With fortnightly cleaning, the cost roughly halves to around CHF 215.

You are invoiced once a month for the hours actually worked.
If visits do not take place, for example while you are on holiday, you do not pay for them.
Extras such as oven, fridge or windows extend the visit accordingly.

Agency or private employment?

At first glance, employing a cleaning lady privately seems cheaper. As an employer, however, you have to pay social security contributions, take out accident insurance, pay for holidays and public holidays, and find a replacement yourself when your cleaner is absent. At Putz24, all of this is included in the hourly rate. Find out more in our article Hiring a cleaning lady legally.

How to save time and money

Choose the right frequency: For many households, cleaning every two weeks is enough.
Set priorities: Bathroom and kitchen on every visit, windows and blinds at longer intervals.
Tidy up beforehand: When floors and surfaces are clear, there is more time left for the actual cleaning.
